You Can Finally Meet My Mom →
I feel like this is such a good follow-up to Drops of Jupiter, and a sweet tribute to both Pat Monahan’s mom and his wife:
There are quite a few allusions to death on this album, such as in “You Can Finally Meet My Mom.” Can you explain?
My mom died right before I wrote “Drops of Jupiter,” so that song is ‘I wonder what it’s like out there?’ I had to cross-pollinate it with love — a girl/boy relationship — for people to relate to it. I had a dream that [my mom] actually came back and was telling me what it was like. So ‘You Can Finally Meet My Mom’ is about all the people that I’m not going to be hanging out with because I’m gonna be hanging out with my wife and she can finally meet my mom.

Eat crappy food, feel like crap. After eating healthy for a week, having Johnny Rockets last night with a milkshake, then Cracker Jacks at the ballpark, and then going to the chinese buffet for lunch today has me feeling like straight doodoo. I didn’t overeat today, but I guess I just prefer to cook myself because then I know what exactly I’m eating. I’m feeling better after going to the gym, but I’ve definitely been sluggish today. Burgers and brats and wings tomorrow, pasta salad and some beers (Mikes for me :)) and then Tuesday I’ll resume eating healthy(ish). But then summer cruise starts Thursday, so who knows what chow hall food will be like. For now, I’m going to enjoy browsing the Hits of 2000 on itunes with my love, pretending to put them on my imaginary iPhone.
